Bayern Munich are one of the many European giants who have shown great interest in the Spanish market in recent years. Last winter they brought Bryan Zaragoza from Granada, and although his signing sessions have so far been underwhelming, they have not been put off to look at La Liga again.
The player who has caught the eye in recent months is Pablo Barrios. They have been following the midfielder of Atletico Madrid for a while, and although it is reported that Chelsea is competing, there seems to be a strong wish for a deal for the 21-year-old, who has had a very good season.
Recent reports have suggested that Bayern would be willing to pay € 70 million for Barrios, but their despair to sign the Spanish talent seems to be even greater than the first thought. According to La Razon (via ED), the Bundesliga Giants are willing to meet the release clause that Athleti has put in his contract, which currently stands at € 100 million.
Atleti could worry about this news, but it doesn't seem like it. The report states that they expect that Barrios will stay in the club for many years, and there is also an expectation that a new contract, which has been in the pipeline for several months, will be offered at the end – and agreed – of the season.
Barrios has so far been one of the striking artists of Atleti this season. He came in the campaign as a back option for Resurreccion and Rodrigo de Paul te Koke, but he has now settled firmly as a regular starter for head coach Diego Simeone. He even shed the competition from Conor Gallagher, who was one of the Big Money arrivals last summer.
It is still to be seen whether Bayern is acting on their interest in Barrios, but for now Atletico Madrid are calm and confident in the situation.
