Atletico Madrid is described this season on a number of occasions as the side with the most depth in La Liga, with Diego Simeone having a number of alternatives and various profiles to gain. Not in the least La Liga's second score last season, Alexander Sorloth, who was kept for a role despite a strong shape, usually from the bank.
The only area that has been emphasized for some time as a desire for Los Colchoneros in the transfer market, and especially for Simeone, is the sitting midfielder position. Last summer the club released € 40 million to Conor Gallagher, but it was used by Simeone, which means that they can be back for Javi Guerra next summer.
However, Marca says that a new priority has also been identified, the left back position. Director of Football Carlos Bucero, who recently took over the recruitment tasks from left sports director Andrea Berta, has already started looking for a new defender on the left.
Although Javi Galan has been pointed out several times as an example for his teammates by Simeone, because of the sacrifice and patience he has shown, Los Rojiblancos is considering bringing him back to the bank. They can use Cesar Azpilicueta for him, as doubts grow over its level.
With Reinildo Mandava, the other left -wing alternative there, out of contract at the end of the season, Atletico has established the need to go after a 'top' left back in the coming summer. No names are mentioned, but it would certainly be logical that they would like to tackle the position, with Azpilicueta (36), Mandava (31) and Galan (30) all in the last stages of their career. Until now, Galan has started exactly half of their La Liga luminaires this season, a total of 23 performances and three assists delivers in 20 starts.
