Arsenal has agreed a six -digit deal for St. Johnstone Wonderkid Callan Hamill, with the teenager who would come to the Gunners in the summer.
It was a quiet January for Mikel Arteta and his team, without new additions, despite a growing injury crisis in attack. A bid for Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa was knocked back, while reports of a renewed urge to Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic do not wear fruit.
All this means that Hamill, 15, will be their first signing of 2025. The 15-year-old can play anywhere on the back line or in midfield and is covered by Scotland at international level below 16 and under 17.
Hamill scored his first goal for Scotland's Under-16s this week and scored in a win over Cyprus. His move to Arsenal comes after interest from Rangers and Celtic last summer, but last summer he drew new conditions at St Johnstone instead of ship for one of the old companies.
According to reports from the Scottish sun in 2024, Hamill impressed Jack Wilshere during the time of the coach responsible for the under-18s of Arsenal. Wilshere has since left in Noord -London and takes over as the first team coach at Norwich under Johannes Hoff Thorup in October, but the athletic reports that Hamill will still add to the Gunners on July 1.
A number of players from the previously managed under-18-side of Wilshere have had the opportunity to mix it with the senior side of Arsenal. The young goalkeeper Jack Porter was put into action in the Carabao Cup in the fall, while Max Dowman – still only 15 – has trained with the first team.
“Very impressive at his age,” said Arteta manager about Dowman. “Some things he does in training are incredible. He is a player with a huge talent that we have a lot of conviction that we can develop him into one of our own and it is doing very well so far.”
Although Hamill is perhaps the first new addition to the ranks of Arsenal in 2025, the club is also coming closer to landing their first senior signing. The Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia has long been a target for the London side because they are looking for a regular backup for David Raya, and Garcia's Club Espanyol seems to have opened the door for a summer agreement.
“Clause or nothing? No in the [last] Summer window, with a call from Arsenal in the past week, it must be that [clause]”Espanyol Sporting Director Fran Garagarza told Pericos Marca, according to Sport Witness.” But if you get an offer on June 14, that's not the clause, but is close and variable amounts, Espanyol is not going to say no. We can't say no. If a club comes with € 8 million (£ 6.6 million) for Joan García, that is a bad sale, 100%. “
Arsenal sold back -upwater Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton in the summer and signed Neto on loan from Bournemouth. The Brazilian, however, only played for the club once and there have been no suggestions that he will move to London permanently at the end of the campaign.
