Concacaf will apply a disciplinary punishment to referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava who approached the Inter Miami Superstar.
Concacaf has been established to impose a disciplinary sanction on the Mexican referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava after images were created after the game, which made Lionel Messi approached to request a signature. After the revelation of this incident, Concacaf launched an investigation, which quickly got a grip after Sporting Kansas City had filed an official complaint.
According to ESPN, Ortiz is said to have asked the signature on behalf of a family member with special needs. Despite the good intentions of the referee,, however, Concacaf emphasized that “the actions of the referee were not tailored to the code of conduct of the confederation for competition officials and necessary procedures.”
Concacaf still has to announce the exact nature of the sanctions against the referee or how they can influence his future career. Ortiz, for his part, has already issued an apology and accepted the consequences of his actions. Professional referees are strictly forbidden to enter into such interactions with players, coaches or someone connected to a club while wearing their official uniform.
A heated return bone for Miami
The signature incident is only one element that adds fuel to an already intense return. A narrow result from the first legs, the real possibility of an early exit and the long-awaited return of Messi, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suárez to well-known Territorium all contribute to making the match of next Tuesday a high-stakes affair.
Inter Miami, who undergoes a year of Squad evolution under new management, has competed in the Concacaf Champions Cup for an important objective. In previous seasons, the gap in quality against some opponents – especially those from the US and Mexico – was rigid. This year it is expected that things will be very different.
