Jose Mourinho sets the record straight on Cristiano Ronaldo transfer talks
Jose Mourinho has made suggestions that he is planning to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for Fenerbahce.
Late last week it was reported that Mourinho had held talks with Ronaldo, currently of Al-Nassr, over a possible reunion in Turkey after previously working with the multiple Ballon d'Or winner at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo's current contract with the Saudi Pro League team expires at the end of the season and there is speculation he could return to Europe for the capstone of an illustrious career, but he will not be joining Fenerbahçe.
So says Mourinho himself, who shot down the said reports. When asked about it, he said: “News about Cristiano Ronaldo to Fenerbahce is ridiculous.
'Cristiano might come to Istanbul to eat as it is in the middle of the road between Saudi Arabia and Portugal. Or maybe he'll come visit his old friend Jose and we can eat at my hotel.'
While Mourinho is adamant that Ronaldo will be no more than playing catch-up to him at Fenerbahce, it remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will remain at Al-Nassr beyond the summer.
Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 after prematurely ending a second spell at Manchester United. His arrival was the prelude to an influx of high-profile stars arriving in Saudi Arabia, although some have already left.
The man himself has heavily hinted that he has no plans to retire anytime soon, meaning he will likely extend his stay at Al-Nassr or look for a new club next summer. Ronaldo also emphasized that the same was true for Portugal, for whom he scored twice in the most recent international break.
When asked about his retirement this month, Ronaldo said: “I just want to enjoy myself. Plan for my retirement… if it has to happen, in one or two years… I don't know. I'll be 40 soon… . I really want to enjoy myself, as long as I am motivated, I will continue.
“The day I don't feel motivated, I'll retire.”
