Virgil van Dijk has confirmed his dedication to Liverpool and revealed that his future in the club could be resolved within the next two months.
The Dutchman came in the season of one of the three important Liverpool players who had entered into the last year of their contracts. The captain of the Reds, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, have all extended their futures in Anfield, with only a matter of months left to pass their deals.
Despite the uncertainty, Liverpool anticipated the last 16 of the Champions League, the final of the Carabao Cup and currently the Premier League Leiden, in the first season of Arne Slot. However, the Feel-good factor and speculation around the Reds trio have not yet seen that their contract situations have been worked out.
Van Dijk, however, remains focused on what he can achieve on Merseyside this season. The veteran defender wants to taste success in 2024/25, but has also suggested that there will be 'certainly' information about his future in the coming months.
“It's all about the coming months,” Van Dijk said ex-Livepool captain Jamie Redknapp in an interview for Sky Sports. “To make sure we give everything.
“We are still in three games and we want to be successful in all three. And that is the most important focus I have. Very, very big plans in that sense. I want to ensure that this team is successful and that is my most important focus at the moment.
“I can't talk about personal conversations that have clearly been going on for a while. I can only say that I am fully committed to the club. I love the fans, I love the club. I've had such a great time.
“Let's see what the future entails. But as long as I am calm, I think the rest of the world can also remain calm.
“If there is a clear answer to my future, this will probably come true. Then everyone can know. I'm pretty calm about it.
“It's pretty funny because I remember that Gini – clearly a friend of mine – Wijnaldum was out of contract and in his last six months in the club I told him that I couldn't believe how calm he was.
“But now I am in the situation myself, I am in a very good place. Physical, mental. The only focus I have at the moment is trying to be successful with Liverpool.
“That is the most important focus. And be the best captain and player I can be for the team and the club.
“What will happen in the future? At the moment I have no idea. But I think there will certainly be some information about it in the coming months. “
