Virgil van Dijk considered “one-year market opportunity” by Real Madrid

Real Madrid hopes to sign Alexander-Arnold in the summer, but it appears that he may not be the only Liverpool defender who makes that movement because Virgil van Dijk is also on the radar of the ruling La Liga and European champions.

In the past 18 months, Real Madrid has difficulty maintaining enough options in the center of defense due to regular injury problems. Eder Militao (X2) and David Alaba both suffered ACL in this period, while Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni were also hit by Niggles.

That is why the club had considered the signing of a new Center-back as a priority, although the rise of Raul Asencio has reduced the need for a new signing in recent months. However, it has not completely disappeared, especially since Alaba and Rudiger both come to the last years of their career.

Currently, Carlo Ancelotti Rudiger, Alaba, Asencio and Tchouameni has options in the center of defense, with Militao that will not be back until next season. Club officials are not convinced that this is sufficient, therefore a new signing can arrive in the summer – and according to Fabrizio Romano (via Diario AS), Van Dijk is one of the options that are considered.

The report states that Real Madrid van Dijk regards as an “one -year -old market opportunity”. In recent years they have only offered players older than 30 years a 12 -month contract, and that pattern would be followed if the Dutch superstar were signed.

Just like Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk is without a contract at the end of the season. He was reportedly offered to Real Madrid a few weeks ago, and although it was said at the time that the club did not consider this an option, they seem to have changed ideas.
