Antony had sent off against Getafe, he spoils the fine start at Betis

Real Betis -Leenlee Antony is suspended for next weekend's collision with Real Madrid in La Liga after receiving an unnecessary red card during Sunday's victory at Getafe.

Antony had made a good start for life in Spain after the end of January after arriving from Manchester United on loan.

The 24-year-old had not started this season with a single Premier League match for United prior to his medium term.

But the journey from Sunday to Getafe saw him start for the sixth game for Betis. Thanks to these six games, Antony has delivered three goals and two assists.

He founded Isco for the opening goal in Estadio Coliseum, but his night ended on a sour note after he was sent from the 2-1 victory on his part in the 90th minute.

Antony's persistent urgency helped to recover his team in the third minute of the added time. He then tried to drip over the right wing with the ball, but took a heavy touch, so he would not beat Juan Iglesias.

Iglesias then played a pass back to his keeper, but was sent to the ground by a reckless failure of Antony after the ball had disappeared.

Antony immediately tried to plead his innocence by waving a finger in the direction of the referee, but Javier Alberola Rojas quickly removed the red card from his back pocket and raised it above the Brazilian.

The commentator who deals with the Premier Sports competition described the tackle as 'reckless' and 'completely unnecessary' and called it a 'heads of gonemeting moment'.

This was Antony's first red card since March 2022 when he was fired in the last minute of Ajax's 3-2 victory over Feyenoord in the Netherlands.

Sunday's victory saw Betis to the seventh being in La Liga.
