Sturridge makes awkward gaffe live on Sky Sports during LIV’s win over City

Daniel Sturridge wishes him to be able to press the returning button after a blunder during the 2-0 victory of Liverpool in Manchester City.

The former English star was one of the experts on the Super Sunday show of Sky Sports when his old parties clashed in the Etihad Stadium.

Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai were on goal in the first half when Liverpool moved 11 points from Arsenal, with Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane declaring the title race.

Sturridge has brought a refreshing sense of humor and energy to his punditry, but slid on the break when presenter David Jones asked if he could see the city mounting a comeback.

The ex -Striker suggested that City Erling Haaland could cause – although the Norwegian was excluded from the team in one of the greatest stories of the day.

“They have tilted and give themselves opportunities,” said Sturridge.

'But when they get crosses in the box, there is not that presence in the box to come to the end.

“So we can see Haaland in the game at a certain moment.”

Pep Guardiola had left Haaland from his team after he had a knee problem and had to be replaced during the 4-0 victory of the city on Newcastle last weekend.

And presenter Jones quickly moved to correct Sturridge and say: 'Not today because he is of course missing. But maybe there can be one or two options that they can go to. '

While he was about to return to the commentary team, Jones had to spend his correction in a broad way and Sturridge did not get the chance to respond.

That meant that the moment sounded rather abrupt, with fans picking up the uncomfortable incident on social media.

'Cracking piece of Punditry by Daniel Sturridge. Sky Sports has fallen from a cliff, “wrote a user on X.

'Sturridge with a shock of that Haaland shout. However, still assess him as an expert, “said another.

“How can you be an expert, but don't know who is even going to be going on yet?” asked one.

Some defended Sturridge quickly, with one writing: 'Sturridge is really excellent in his analysis and adds character and personality. He made a mistake. What does it matter? '

Another said, “Every expert has made a mistake TBF.”

Sturridge later also received in the show for taking parties with Micah Richards after Jamie Carragher suggested that the Africa Cup of Nations was not a 'big tournament'.

Carragher suggested that Salah can usually be disadvantaged in the race for the Ballon d'Or to play for Egypt in Africa, in contrast to a European or South American nation.

The claim of Carragher is perhaps a truth – the last player to win the Ballon d'Or from an African nation was George Weah of Liberia in 1995, although Sadio Mane became second in 2022.

As Carragher notes, players who perform well in the Champions League or the euros/Copa America usually tend to win the prize in modern times.

But Sturridge hit back: 'It's a fact. It's a fact. It's a fact. If you win the euros or Copa America, it is considered a big one, so the AFCON is at the same level. '
