Man Utd player who they ‘didn’t even want to sign’ was confronted after Everton draw

The former captain of Manchester United Ashley Young had to be stopped when the Everton-Man Matthijs de Ligt tried to confront after the controversial 2-2 draw in Goodison Park.

The Everton-Veteran-Die eight and a half years spent the books in Old Trafford spent furiously with the Dutchman after the United comeback on Merseyside. Young, 39, was a pity not to earn what the fine of the game could have been in injury time after he had fallen under pressure from De Ligt and Harry Maguire.

Referee Andy Madley decided to change ideas after he initially awarded a spot kick, despite the repetitions that show that De Ligt's sweater had pulled in his own box, so he had not received a loose ball near Andre Onanan's goal. The controversial intervention of VAR meant that the two teams had to settle for sharing the loot after Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte had canceled the goals of Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Post-match images of the dugouts placed on social media by the Liverpool Echos Tony Scott showed that Young was stopped while he tried to confront the Ligt after the full-time whistle.

Young-Die came in the game like a 54th minute replacement his way from the field when he turned around and seemed to make a beeline for the former Ajax and Juventus defender.

Maguire, 31, intervened and led Jong in the changing rooms before he could go to De Ligt. And Saturday's incident only unfolded a few days after ESPN reported that De Ligt – who came to United from Bayern Munich last summer for £ 40 million – was never sought by his current club, but was previously a personal project for dismissed boss Erik Ten Hag, if he drove through the transfer for the player he had managed in Amsterdam.

It was said that former United Sporting Director Dan Ashworth was partly the fault of approving the transfer in the first place. The last financial report from United for the last quarter of 2024 showed that United had spent £ 4 million in hiring and then dismissed Ashworth for only five months, and the deal the deal was perhaps a contribution to the reason why.

The report also claimed that despite the fact that United was reasonably well filled with Centrumhalves, Ashworth thought that, after they had just given ten Hag a new contract, they had to show that they had faith in him by signing a player he wanted.

It appears that De Ligt has in fact been one of the more impressive defenders of United so far this season, together with Leny Yoro, whose start to life in Manchester was seriously disturbed by an injury in the preseason. The presence of De Ligt will be all the more invaluable in the coming months after Lisandro Martinez was excluded for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, while Maguire was demonstrably an error for both goals in Goodison Park.

In the meantime, Young continues to prove that although his body may be older, his mood has not been taken in the least. The midfielder will become 40 in July his Everton contract ends 20 years after making his Premier League debut in 2006.
