Istanbul derby SUSPENDED as Fenerbahce fans throw flares into Galatasaray end and police forced to intervene

The heated derby of Galatasaray and Fenerbahce was interrupted after a smooth torches were thrown into the stands.

The historic collision between the two bitter rivals had anything but goals while the two Istanbul enemies played a scoreless draw in the Rams Park.

The tensions were sky high before the kick -off when the two sets of players refused to shake hands after they understood their way to the field.

And the Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic had to interrupt the collision in the 52nd minute because of crowd of problems.

According to Hurriyet, Fener -fans threw torches that they lit at Galata fans.

Scary scenes followed despite the unusually stricter security measures, which saw the presence of 30,000 police officers.

However, the match was started again after the authorities intervened and regained control.

Jose Mourinho's side was desperately looking for the three points to reduce the shortage with Galatasaray.

And the visitors set it out for almost 67 minutes with the greatest chance of the game.

Fenerbahce star Filip Kostic delivered a corner kick that was met by Alexander Djiku's header.

Galatasaray -goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, however, produced a stunning double salvation when he denied Djiku and then Edin Djeko who came close to scoring the rebound.

Mourinho's men, who are confronted with Rangers in the last 16 of the Europa League, are now in second place with six points that separate them from the top.

And the men of Okan Buruk are now pose as top favorites to win a third consecutive Super Lig title.
