The Legal Department of Barcelona has worked overtime in recent years, but has been given a new assignment this week: Save the deal for Vitor Roque to go to Palmeiras. The Brazilian teenager seemed ready this week to move to O Verdao.
Earlier on Monday it was reported that the deal had been implemented. Barcelona had agreed a reimbursement of € 25 million with Palmeiras for 80% of his rights, and real betis were also willing not to stand in the way of a deal. Because of a La Liga law, however, the deal seems as if it will be possible – when discovering this Palmeiras apparently pulled out of the deal.
The problem depends on a La Liga clause that prevents Roque from making a movement to move the transfer windows. To continue Barcelona with the sale, they would have to register Roque again once his loan agreement has ended to sell or borrow it, something they are not allowed to do.
According to MD, however, Barcelona is looking for a way to breathe new life into. They have appealed to both UEFA and FIFA, consultation about whether there is a legal route around the La Liga rules. Moreover, in addition to his agent Andre Cury, their legal team has also looked at the issue and believed that there is case law, earlier examples of the same event, so that they can move forward.
Barcelona is desperately looking for a deal, because it would enable them to recover what they have invested on Roque, a player that they no longer consider an option for their future. Similarly, it would free up a lot of space in terms of their salary limit, so that they can register new contract innovations, such as those of Inigo Martinez or Lamine Yamal.
