Real Madrid has been a virulent in their campaign against Spanish referees for the past two years, but in February that campaign was spent a notch. After a match against Espanyol in which Carlos Romero disguised a broadcast for a failure on Kylian Mbappe, and then scored the winner, Los Blancos responded with a letter to the Royal Spanish football federation (RFEF).
Although many clubs are vocal and are frustrated by the referee in recent months and years, with people such as Real Sociedad and Alaves who recently use official club channels to complain about the difference with Real Madrid was the deliberate description of the referee system ALS Corrupt and manipulated against them, instead of 'just' negligent. Los Blancos also claimed that it was up to officials that they had also lost certain trophies.
Two weeks ago, La Liga, as warned by President Javier Tebas, submitted a formal complaint about Real Madrid for their letter, and now Cadena Cope reports that the Disciplinary Committee will open an investigation into the case. They will then have a period of six weeks to two months to give a judgment and recommend a sanction for Real Madrid if they consider it necessary.
The disciplinary committee would then decide whether this sanction applies, although it tends to be the case that they would do this if it was recommended. It is not yet clear how serious or what form the sanction could take. Punishment could also apply to Real Madrid himself, or the Board of Directors who were behind the letter.
This comes from the heels of Olympique Marseille president Pablo Longoria who accuses referees of corrupt in Ligue 1. After the referee, however, threatened to sue legal steps, Longoria has since withdrawn his statements.
