Hugo Lloris says that the success of the Europa League Tottenham's hot and cold season can save – but Daniel Levy has already helped put them in the group of best clubs in the world.
Spurs has had a season of chaos, with their worst form of competition for almost 31 years, making Ange Postecoglou fighting for his future. But three Premier League victories in a row – their best run since December 2023 – has facilitated pressure on the Australian.
While Postecoglou has the support of Spurs fans, Levy does not do. Proponents mess with the ownership of the club, with sit-down protests, angry banners and hymns of “levy” who overshadows the victory over Manchester United this month.
Lloris, 38, was also a vocal critic of Levy's and three months ago said that the gift of a watch was engraved with the words “Champions League finalist” of the chairman before their defeat by Liverpool asked him if the club “really wants “Win”.
But the Lafc star, who spent 12 years in North Londs without winning a single trophy, has now praised the Spurs Supremo for changing the club into a Premier League power patient.
He said: “That is not the first time (that fans have protested). But Daniel has my support. I know from within all the really good things he has done. He brought the club to one level and he brought it to one Great level.
“Tottenham now belongs to the group of the best clubs in the world. We all know that the reputation of traces and missing trophies. But you have to realize that the club has become huge in the football world in 20 years. Not just on it Field, but also outside the field with a strong image around the world.
“And I know they work, they all do their best to get that success. Daniel has really been huge for the club and he deserves a lot of praise.
“But you can't win trophies with one person. It's about choosing the right people and making the environment that will help the team succeed.”
Tottenham's domestic season has been a disaster, but the Europa League, where they are confronted with the Dutch Side AZ Alkmaar in the last 16, offers them the chance to end their 17-Wait for a trophy. And with it unlikely that tracks will come for Europe next season through their competition position, Lloris thinks that European glory will give its former side extra motivation.
He added: “They still live. They are still in the Europa League to compete. It is true that the gap for the Champions League places is too great.
“When you experience problems in the competition, participation in another competition such as the Europa League gives you an extra boost and gives you even more energy”
