Empoli hit Juventus from the Coppa Italia after having hit them 4-2 on Wednesday after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Allianz Stadium.
After 24 minutes, Youssef Maleh brought a goal against the Run of Play with a fierce attack from outside the penalty area. Juventus had lost possession in their own half and Maleh let them pay.
Empoli had opportunities to expand their lead after they had a goal ahead of them, but neither Junior Sambia nor Maleh could make the meaningful contribution after hardening opportunities.
Khephren Thuram then made them their missed opportunities when he got Juve on level terms again in the 66th minute.
Randal Kolo Muani had found Thuram with his back to goal with a ball from the left, where the latter then produced a stunning film to pass his husband before he shot home on the corner.
Dusan Vlahovic missed a brilliant opportunity to win the draw five minutes after the time, but could not get his half volley on goal. The Serbian missed the opening sentence of the shoot-out and sent his spot kick over the bar.
Empoli goalkeeper Devis Vasquez then denied Kenan Yildiz and Luca Marianucci won it for the visitors.
Empoli will be confronted with Bologna in a two -legged semi -final in April. Inter Milan and AC Milan play each other for the other place in the final.

Data debrief: Juve humiliated in their own backyard
Empoli's fine victory road to Juventus has written history and secured their place in the Coppa Italia Semi-Final for the first time ever.
For Juve, meanwhile, it is only the second time in the last 10 seasons that they have not done the last four of the competition.
The goal of Maleh to open the score was also the first that they admitted from outside the frameworks this season in all competitions.
