Captain Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United seemed to be the playing style of Ruben Amorim after the 3-2 victory from his side on Ipswich to be questioned on Wednesday and admitted that it 'does not work in moments'.
The Red Devils were forced to dig deep in the night after they were reduced to 10 men, with Patrick Dorgu a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Omari Hutchinson shortly before half -time.
The evening started just as gloomy as it ended for Dorgu, who signed for Manchester United during the transfer window of January, given that his disastrous mix with goalkeeper Andre Onana Ipswich gifted the lead within four minutes at Old Trafford.
Although United organized a reversal of the first half-by-end by Sam Morsy's own goal before he took the lead thanks to the close-range strike of Matthijs de Ligte, they scored his second in the Nasleep van Dorgu's Roekelo Red Red Card.
Harry Maguire recovered the lead of United shortly after the break with an excellent header from a set piece, assisted by Fernandes, before he inspired his defense to hold the advantage and to bring about the five-goal thriller.
Reflecting on the result, which United brought in the table until 14th with only their ninth victory of the season, Fernandes seemed to suggest that he and his teammates sometimes questioned Amorim's playing style.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November and has struggled for results since he arrived at Old Trafford, has constantly insisted that he will continue to coach United under the same principles and will support his favorite playing style in the long term, whether the short -term rewards on the field.
Fernandes said to TNT Sport after the game: 'I and H (Maguire) have been here for a while, so we know that we have to stay with what we have trained, what we have tried to do, what we should do.
'You couldn't feel in times, it doesn't work, but for some reason the manager wants us to do that.
'If he wants us to do that, they (the opposition) look at many games and prepare.
'We have a great staff, not only from his, but those who are already there. We have great people behind the team to try to work on it, so if they do that in the right way, we just have to get to the field and show it. '
Admitting that his team – who has lost 12 of their 27 games so far this season in the Premier League – is 'suffering', Fernandes has further revealed what he thinks Manchester United is missing on the football field.
He continued: 'The moment is what it is. We suffer, we know that. We have not been to our best. And as H said today (it's positive) when you don't play your best football and allow a target early but still in the game.
'We scored from two set pieces and were under control of the game, played between the lines, finding the spaces.
'I still think we miss that little bit of aggressiveness, when we beat the opposition between the lines and we change, we have to be more aggressive, but we will get that over time. Players become more confident, so hopefully we will score more and more in the following games. '
Happy to register a rare victory at home, Maguire added that his united side had to improve their shape in Old Trafford in the first place.
'It is clearly important (to win), we found ourselves in a difficult position this year and we knew that it would be a big game for us. We have to change our home form, “said England's center-back.
'We clearly give them a goal, a bad mistake on our behalf, but then we took control of the game. I felt that we were playing very well, some of our best football of the season, especially in that first half. So to lose a man again, I think that is three in our last two months or so, we made it difficult.
“We knew that the second half would be difficult and we clearly scored from a set of game that was really important in the end.”
