Jamie Carragher has sensationally claimed that Arsenal star William Saliba “looks like a Real Madrid player”.
The Liverpool -legend gave the Gunners a damn warning that they can be susceptible to losing Saliba if they don't start winning trophies quickly.
The decreasing title of Arsenal took another body blow on Wednesday evening when they left 0-0 to Nottingham Forest. The 2-0 victory of Liverpool over Newcastle then saw the team of Arne Slot a huge 13 points from Mikel Arteta at the top of the table, although the guns destroyed by injury still have a match.
In the past three seasons, Saliba has been one of the best defenders of the Premier League and in recent years it has been an integral part of Arsenal's repeated title challenges. In the meantime, Arsenal is still hunting for Champions League Glory this season and are confronted with a round of 16 draw with the Dutch Outfit PSV Eindhoven, with the first stage in the Netherlands on Tuesday.
However, they were beaten from the FA Cup and League Cup in the early rounds, and Carragher believes that clubs such as Madrid will forge the interest in the 23-year-old Frenchman as his waiting for large silverware goes on.
“There is one player, and people will think that I am trying to cause a problem for Arsenal here and I am not,” Carragher said in the last episode of the podcast of 'It's Calls Soccer'. “But I think when you are in a club and this happened to us in Liverpool, as soon as you don't win the competition or the Champions League, other larger clubs start thinking:” Okay, we can take their player. “
“So for us in Liverpool it was [Xabi] Alonso, [Javier] Mascherano and [Fernando] Torres and then that team built by Rafa Benitez – players left just left, right and center. I look at Saliba and at me he looks like a Real Madrid player. I can imagine him in a Real Madrid kit.
“You look at some of the best center backs there are, the longer your club does not win or compete for trophies and if you are as good as he and some players we had in our team. Mascherano went to the big Barcelona team, Alonso goes to Real Madrid, it did not make the wrong choice at the wrong choice.
“But the longer you go without winning, people start watching your players and think:” Okay, we're going to take them, “and the players are receptive for it. It's a short career, they want to play in the Champions League final, they want to win it.
“Listen, that can happen this season with Arsenal, but that is a problem that they will have in the future if they don't start winning trophies soon.”
While Madrid will be interested in Saliba near Saliba for the time being, Arsenal -legend Ian Wright has shared his concern that the top talent of the North London club could soon watch if their trophy dries would continue. He also claimed that Saliba will be on Madrid's wish list in the near future.
“If you're talking about it [contract renewals] With certain players … Saka, Gabriel, Saliba … the way they move now, I bet those innovations will all be slow, “Wright said.
