Atletico Madrid yet to clarify future with clutch forward

Atletico Madrid has been the best team in Europe's top five competitions when it comes to late goals and dramatic victories. Alexander Sorloth has been an important part of that, but the original 'super sub' is Angel Correa.

The Argentina International has been in the club for ten years, and although he has never succeeded in keeping a regular starting role, few players at the time have made as many crucial contributions as Correa. This season alone, he has three goals in stopping time.

However, his future is not clear at the moment. Correa's contract is in 2026 and with less than 18 months before the deal, says relevant that there have been no contacts between his agents and Atletico Madrid about a new contract. In the coming months, Correa will make a 'decision to' take the line out of his camp, but currently he is not planning to leave Atletico.

That said, his role in the coming months will be important to make that decision, with Sorloth now offering more competition from the bank. Correa is also interested in the Mexican league, where Sergio Canales and Sergio Ramos recently found a home.

It is not the first time that Correa has been linked to a movement. In the past he came close to AC Milan at some point, while at some point Besiktas is also heavily connected to a movement for him.

This season, Correa has seven goals and five assists in 35 performances and has on average a goal contribution every 95 minutes. Those figures illustrate his importance for Diego Simeone, but with Correa that will be 30 next week, the length and value of the contract will undoubtedly also come into play. Atletico would undoubtedly prefer Correa among their ranks, but at what price and how long is a different matter.
