Real Madrid and Barcelona both started drawing up their plans for the summer transfer window, which should be relatively busy for both clubs. Neither of them will tackle their respective midfield options, although that could change in the case of a market chance that becomes available.
Joshua Kimmich could be those market opportunities. The 30-year-old has been considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the world for some time and he still has a fantastic season with Bayern Munich. However, it could be his last in the Bavarian Club, where he is only under contract until the end of June.
Kimmich got stuck when signing a new deal with Bayern, and therefore club officers have become more and more frustrated with him. As such, they have now drawn their newest proposal, as reported by Bild.
As such, Kimmich is now ready to leave Bayern as a free agent, although there is four months to go before his contract is up, in which many things can change. However, this new development can bring Real Madrid back to the table, not long after they had excluded the possibility of signing it in the summer.
Barcelona has been Kimmich admirers for a long time, and although Hansi Flick would rather use the players who are already at his disposal, he could be tempted to reunite with the midfielder he knew during his successful enchantment of Bayern between 2019 and 2021.
At this stage it is still likely that Kimmich will stay in Bayern. The two parties are still in conversation despite the withdrawn contract offer, but if a resolution is not agreed, it will stand opportunities for teams such as Real Madrid and Barcelona, although neither is particularly interested in this stage.
