Jamie Carragher says Arsenal have ‘peaked’ under Mikel Arteta

Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal may have gone as far as they will be under manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners ran from Man City in the last two seasons and many thought they could finally go completely this time.

However, it was not selected in this way with Liverpool who is now running away with the Premier League title.

Every hope that Arsenal had to catch them has evaporated last week with the men of Arne Slot now 13 points clearly at the top.

And Carragher thinks that the Arteta team may have missed their window to end their 20-year waiting time on a top title.

About the overlap he said, “I think we saw Peak Arsenal under Arteta,” he said. 'I think last season, the second half of last season, I looked at Arsenal who thought wow, this is a team this.

'I watched them week out, week out and thought I am looking at a team that is as good as every team in Europe here. The last 18 games, you won 16, pulled one to the city and lost one of Aston Villa at home. That period of three or four months, I am not sure whether Arsenal will return to that.

'The reason I say that is because when I went back when I played for Liverpool and we went for the competition and we had a season where we really were there … If you end up in the second three seasons in a row, it is hard to keep going again.

'That is the name of the game and he may have to change players. We talk about recruitment and bring players in, but there is definitely a question about Arteta.

“I said at the start of the season that the football we saw in the first season that they challenged City … It is now a different team. It feels more physical, more powerful but stiff, not loose.

'There is no doubt that this is more a Jose Mourinho team. It is more about set pieces that go to your front players for a long time and everyone who falls back to keep clean sheets. I played in such teams and we always had something special. That's why I never supported Arsenal. I always thought you have a special attacking player.

'We had it yesterday after the game that I still think, if Liverpool continues and wins the competition, you can always do it that way, who will challenge the champions next season?

“I think I would still support Manchester City more than Arsenal at the moment.”
