Canadian striking Aiemann Zahabi promises to retire Jose Aldo on UFC 315
Only a few hours after the news about Aldo vs Zahabi had hit the air waves, the Bantam weight in Montreal would join Doppelganger Ariel Helwani to talk about the matchup.
Although Zahabi knows that the best days of the iconic former former UFC champion are good and really behind him, this does not mean that 12-2 Canadian expects a walkover on 10 May.
“He is a bit past his prime, and I don't mean that with age, because we are very similar to each other in age, but the difference is that he has many kilometers on him, many championship rounds, many hard -fought battles [whereas] I have less damage to my body.
“I didn't fight as often as he, but he is still super dangerous, you know that Jonathan Martinez was a man of the top and he hit him pretty decisively.”
Aldo defeated the then Martinez via a unanimous decision in May 2024, but would drop a controversial decision to Mario Bautista a few months later in October.
“He is cunning and he still has life in him, man,” Zahabi continued, who admitted that his goal for UFC 315 not only achieved the biggest victory of his career, but to retire Jose Aldo.
“I hope to retire him in the most respectful way – and I mean that, I clearly don't talk about garbage with the man, but it's a good launch platform for me.”
Zahabi will arrive UFC 315 on the back of a five-fighter-winning streak with impressive victories over Aoriqileng, Javid Basharat and the most recently; A GSP-inspired shutout from Pedro Munhoz.
