EPL chief offers huge update on Man City’s 130 financial rule breach charges

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters has issued an update on the 130 financial fair play costs of Manchester City.

City was hit last February with 115 charges due to alleged infringements on FFP rules.

That number rose to 130 later in the year after an administration problem.

The reigning Prem -Champions fiercely denied the charges in a hearing that took place between September and December and a judgment is now imminent.

Pep Guardiola revealed earlier this month that he expected to learn from the fate of the club in March.

And the Spaniard has insisted that he will comment on the situation when the process is over.

But Prem Chief Masters gave a short update about the process on Thursday – which suggests that the panel must “have time”.

Asked about the business at the Football Summit company, he said: “The disciplinary panel must be given time to make their decision”.

Football financing expert Kieran Maguire believes that a relegation-inducing point deduction would be the most likely outcome if City would lose the matter.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “A point deduction would be the most likely outcome if the club is found guilty.

“Regarding the quantum of points deduction, if Everton initially received a deduction of 10 points to walk around £ 10/12 million across borders in a certain season, I think, to set an example for the rest of football, it must act as a deterrent.”

“We will probably look somewhere in the region of 60 to 100 points, which would effectively guarantee relegation from the Premier League and in the lower layers of football in the EFL.”

Man City recently won a legal battle with the Premier League about “illegal” financial rules.

The judgment of the bomb could now activate a series of compensation claims of clubs and be able to put the competition into crisis.
