Ruben Amorim has admitted that he feels 'ashamed' after a difficult start of his reign at Manchester United.
Amorim arrived in November from Sporting Lisbon as one of the most appreciated head coaches in European football, but only won five of his opening 16 league matches and lost eight.
United is on track for their worst Premier League campaign and is currently 14th in the table, but Amorim still has most of the fan base behind him.
However, he has admitted that there have been very few positives to take from Old Trafford from the age of first three months.
In an interview with United Icon Rio Ferdinand for TNT -Sport, Amorim said: 'I feel that (people who believe in me). At the same time I am ashamed of that, because if you look at our performance and you sometimes see our team on the field, it is really difficult for me as a coach to take many positives. '
Amorim insists that he has seen good signs of his team in the training, but that has not translated into versions on the field.
Playing at home has become a specific problem for United, because they have lost five times at Old Trafford Under Amorim.
The Portuguese boss is fully aware of the problems that his side has when performing in Old Trafford, but does not think it is a lack of talent.
Instead, he is convinced that the nerves will improve his players, and he can even feel problems on the horizon before a ball is kicked.
'I think we are sometimes so nervous in the game and you can feel it in the little things. The way we sometimes move, the understanding of the game, especially at Old Trafford, “he went on.
'I feel that the players are sometimes in the dressing room and we are going to warm up and we go inside to start the game, I feel that the sky is heavy. I think we show things like this a lot in the games. '
Amorim has sworn to fight at United, but believes that his tactic can push the team alone so far.
He has encouraged his side to continue to believe in his methods and to stay with them through difficult periods to reverse their season.
“The only way I know to help them is to give them to the solutions to play on the field, but they have to believe it,” he said.
'And to believe it is when we lose or in a difficult situation and you feel that you cannot even build one game, they must stay and believe in it. That is the most difficult part.
'Because when we suffer a goal or have a bad time, you feel that the connection is not there, we lose ourselves. We get lost a bit. I understand that it is more than football, more than tactics, it is something that is in the spirit of the players. '
