Real Madrid facing Xabi Alonso competition from European giant

It is no secret that Real Madrid Xabi Alonso is strongly considering as their next head coach for when Carlo Ancelotti inevitably leaves the club in the next 15 months. The future of the Italian has been regularly speculated in recent years, and although there are no plans for him to leave before his contract ends in the summer of 2026, he was able to run away earlier.

That could happen at the end of this season, and if so, it is expected that Real Madrid will move to Alonso – although they may not be alone in that. The 43-year-old has many lovers who have given his exploits with Bayer Leverkusen, and one of them is Manchester City, who could be looking for a new manager themselves.

Earlier in the season, Pep Guardiola signed a contract extension until 2026, which means that he could also be moved at the same time while Ancelotti and Alonso leave their current positions. At the moment Man City is expected to regard Alonso as a candidate as their next head coach, as reported by Bild (via Ed).

The chance is that the summer of 2026 will also be the time that Real Madrid goes for Alonso, because it would be a surprise to see Ancelotti firing before the end of his contract. As such, it can be a straight shooting between them and husband City to see who can countries the Basque countries as their next head coach.

The race for Alonso will be very interesting. Leverkusen would not stand in the way of him if he were looking for an exit before the end of his contract, although the chance is that he will stay with the ruling Bundesliga champions for another season. In the meantime, Real Madrid will remain alert, and that also applies to Man City.
