Atletico Madrid signed Clement Lenglet last summer on loan from Barcelona, and it is safe to say that he is very impressed. Club officials are already preparing to make the move permanent, although they have to pay more money than their first offer, which has recently been submitted.
Lenglet has been an excellent central defensive option for Athleti alongside Jose Maria Gimenez and Robin Le Normand. It is no surprise that they want him to stay in the club after the summer, and Barcelona likes to sell a player that they are not interested in keeping – and also whose contract runs in 2026.
It is interesting that Lenglet could not have ended up in Atleti, because head coach Diego Simeone prior to his arrival another Center-Back from Barcelona Wilde that Inigo Martinez was.
According to the sport, Simeone was very interested in Martinez, who was calculated by previous Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez. However, it was the player himself who set the chance from a move to Atleti, because he only considered staying in Catalonia.
This decision is justified because Martinez has been a top performance for Barcelona this season. He has developed a very strong partnership with Pau Cubarsi, and he has even preferred Ronald Arajo, despite the fact that the Uruguayan defender returns to action after missing the first half of the campaign with a serious hamstring injury.
There could still be hope for Simeone and Atleti in their pursuit of Martinez, who is in the contract in Barcelona at the end of this season. However, an extension of a year has already been agreed, and the hope of the Catalan club is that everything will be completed in the coming weeks, although they can wait until there is room in FFP.
