Man Utd Women ‘not trying to sell forward Geyse against her will’

Sources from Manchester United have denied that the club tried to sell Geyse against her will.

United has negotiated a potential loan movement to NWSL -side Gotham FC with the full knowledge of the attacker and its representative Luis Felipe Silva.

Advanced conversations are supposed to continue with Gotham FC and United hope to close a deal in the coming days.

The club has worked closely with the Brazilian and her agent, to find the right solution for her in a difficult time after her brother's death.

There have been a number of options for her to move to North America, so that she could be closer to her family in Brazil, and both the player and the agent have been kept fully informed of offers.

United would rather not lose Geyse on this point in the season, but she would like to move back to America and the club tries to facilitate that out of respect for the player and her family situation, with every deal that requires her permission.

United is deemed to have given extensive support to get her back to Brazil quickly and gave her three weeks of compassionate leave after the death of her brother. The 26-year-old made her first Super League's Super League performance of 2025 with a late replacement appearance in the 2-0 victory of United on Leicester on Sunday.

Geyse wrote on Instagram on Sunday that “staying in a place where we don't feel happy is a painful and lonely feeling”.

She said: “Every day seems heavier, and the simple fact that there is a burden. The environment that should be hospitable will be a field of discomfort, where inner peace is difficult to find.”

Her agent Silva told The Telegraph: “The club has clearly demonstrated that it is not counting on Geyse. Man Utd tried to borrow Geyse to a club in the US, but the player has the right to decide on her future and the club for which she will play.

“The best solution for all parties is to leave and, I repeat that man Utd was the first to borrow the player when she was at her brother's funeral.”

United WFC said: “We continue to support Geyse in its well -being and continue to look for options that suit all parties.”
