Cristiano Ronaldo did not miss the collision of Al-Nassr with Iranian side Esteghlal because he would be confronted with 99 eyelashes for adultery, the embassy of the country claimed.
The Portuguese superstar missed the trip to Tehran in the Asian Champions League on Monday. Ronaldo also follows the collision of the Saudi side with Persepolis, also based in Tehran last month.
The 40-year-old has Al-Nassr in three Saudi Pro League matches that came between the Continental Cup matches. Earlier it had been reported that Ronaldo would be confronted with '999 eyelashes' after an interaction with a disabled fan.
Ronaldo met the Iranian painter Fatima Hamami in 2023 and greeted her with a hug and a kiss. That saw him breaking Iranian law, it is said, because touching a married woman is considered adulterous.
However, a spokesperson for the nation embassy has refuted such claims. They even went so far to praise the interaction between Ronaldo and Hamami, and explained it 'sincere'.
“We strongly deny the issue of a decision from a court against every international athlete in Iran,” they told Talksport. “His sincere and human encounter with Fatima Hamami was also praised and admired by both the people and the sports authorities of the country.”
Reports in Saudi Arabia have suggested that Ronaldo missed the collision due to muscle fatigue. Al-Nassr earned a scoreless draw against Esteghlal when January signed Aston Villa Jhon Duran in front and was supported by Sadio Mane in the first-Leg armor.
In the middle of the first claims that Ronaldo would be confronted with a punishment, Hamami, who paints her feet, defended the ex-manchester United and Real Madrid Vooruit. Through their meeting, the artist presented a portrait of the player, while Ronaldo offered one of his shirts.
Hamami expressed her appreciation for their interaction. “Unemployed lawyers have made accusations against him without the permission of my or my family,” she said in 2023.
“In Iran he committed a crime because he hugged me, while we have never had complaints … I am very grateful to Ronaldo for his love and love against me. I hope that the best happens to him in life and football.
“Nobody told him about the laws of Iran and he didn't know it either, but Ronaldo's hug was for his love and brotherhood, and he had no bad intentions.
“My family and I have no complaints about this issue, we just want to deny these accusations against Cristiano.”
