Paddy Pimblett says he clearly thinks he will beat Islam Makhachev

Paddy Pimblett is slowly but surely working his way to the top of the UFC mountain.

Aside from a controversial decision against Jared Gordon, 'The Baddy' has destroyed every opponent in the promotion who dared to face him. And it's fair to say it has boosted his confidence.

As Pimblett's dream of being crowned UFC champion inches closer to reality, the wrestler has begun discussing a clash with Islam Makhachev.

Although the Russian would be a big favourite, the 29-year-old is confident he has what it takes to overcome the turmoil.

In an interview on StillTalkingShow, the fighter said: “People always say, 'Do you think you can beat Islam Makhachev'? I'm like, 'Obviously.' Do you think I'm going to sit here and say, 'No, he would hit me'? Then I'm not a fighter; I'm a coward.

“Someone asked him about me last week in Abu Dhabi and he said, 'If he keeps winning fights, he might get a title shot.'

“I respect Islam, he is a great champion. People will probably laugh at me for saying this, but obviously I think I would beat him. I don't think any man on this planet would hit me if I got in the cage with them. I think I would beat anyone.”

When asked if Makachev would stand a chance against him, the Scouser replied: “Not in my opinion. I always say, if you think someone in your division or one of your rivals can beat you, you're in the wrong sport.”
