Rio Ferdinand has hit back on Claims Sir Alex Ferguson is partly responsible for the decline of Man United.
United has passed a gloomy 12 years since the last win of the top flight in 2012-2013 in the last season of Ferguson who was in charge of the club.
That Triumph was the 20th English league title of United, but the Red Devils have since fell second at difficult times, with their highest finish, while they regularly did not qualify for the Champions League.
Under Ruben Amorim this season are United 14th, 14 points of the top four and their season is based on the Europa League after they have been beaten by Fulham from the FA Cup during the weekend.
After that defeat, Gary Lineker claimed that Ferguson is the fault of the start of the long decline of United, in which he questioned the state in which he left the club.
And on Monday on Talksport, Talksport Pundit and former Chelsea star Jason Cundy repeated the calls of Lineker – and implied that the composition of the team when Ferguson left was a key factor in the subsequent battle of United.
“I totally agree with him,” said Cundy. “When Sir Alex left, the team he left for David Moyes was not a team that was built for years.”
Colleague expert Jamie O'hara, however, refuted Cundy's claims and said, “You can't blame that now.”
Cundy admitted that United's fight this season cannot be attributed to Ferguson, but he continued to ram his point home.
“I'm not even now, but in my opinion it was the start of the decline,” Cundy added. “He left the club in such a … I felt the team, he didn't leave the club in an incredible state.
“Klopp left Liverpool in a much better position than Sir Alex United in, that's a fact.”
Cundy continued: 'The team was terrible, look at the rear four. Three of the most important back four all left within 18 months to 2 years. That is not building a team.
'(CEO) David Gill Links and Woody (Ed Woodward) came in, when Gill left, Woodward was terrible.
'A part of that partnership that Gill and Sir Alex had was also broken, then you suddenly bring into Moyes and Ed Woodward.
'Those two things are the reasons why United refused and in the position they are in. In my opinion (for their struggles) you can't stay there again. “
However, Ferdinand was quickly biting back on Cundy's comments when he launched a furious defense of the Ferguson team.
'The average age of the team that Sir Alex left was 26.6 years old. Blend of young people and experience, “he posted on X.
“Our attacking players were … Rooney (27), RVP (29), Chicharito (25), Welbeck (22), Zaha (20), Nani (26), Ashley Young (27), Lingard (20), Kagawa (24), Valencia (27), Janzajj. '
The former defender then shared a photo of the make-up of United's Squadron on a transfer market and added: '19 international players. '
Ferdinand also placed a table with United's net spending on € 1.27 billion (£ 1.05 billion) as the highest of different European clubs since the 2014-15 season.
“PS we won the competition with 11 points …,” he added. 'Since then, recruitment has been bad. But I have read in recent days that it is the boss error. What a load of nonsense … '
In the meantime, on Sunday, Lineker had suggested that Ferguson left when the decline of United was inevitable and the abundant legacy Jurgen Klopp contrasts Arne Slot in Liverpool.
“If you look at Liverpool now, they have a new manager in Arne Slot, and it is proof of how Jurgen Klopp has left the club in a really good condition,” he said at the BBC. 'So the structure is really good.
'That was probably not the case at the end of Sir Alex Ferguson [time at Old Trafford]. I know they won the competition that season, but it was not their best side, and many of their great players came to the end of their career.
“I think they had problems from there. The Academy did not deliver the players they were earlier. '
