
Paris Saint -Germain has to impose their game on Liverpool to prevent the “fighter jet” attackers from being hit in the last 16 of the Champions League, says Luis Enrique.
PSG welcome the Premier League leaders of the Parc des Princes for the first stage of their long-awaited European draw on Wednesday.
PSG was slow to find their feet in 2024-25, but gone through the gears in recent weeks, won 18 of their last 20 competitive matches and the other two draws.
The French champions also scored 21 goals in their last four games and drove through the Champions League play-offs with a 10-0 total victory against colleague Ligue 1 Club Brest.
They have won five consecutive Champions League matches and were able to win six in a row in Europe Premier Club Competition for the first time since 1994-1995.
But in Liverpool they will see the current favorites of the OPTA -SUPERCOMPUTER to eliminate the Champions League trophy -The Merseyside Club gets a chance of 19% to become European champions for a seventh time, with PSG a probability of 10%.
“It will be intense. On paper it is one of the best competitions you can watch in Europe. They are one of the best teams in the field of counterattacks,” said Luis Enrique Tuesday.
“We must be careful that we do not suffer from their transitions. They have three fighter jets in attack, it is not easy to stop them if we do not impose our game on them.”
Among those “fighter jets” is Mohamed Salah, who this season scored 30 goals in all competitions and offers 22 assists.
His total of 52 target statements is at least 12 more than any other player from Europe's top five competitions, with Raphinha from Barcelona on 40 (24 goals, 16 assists). PSG-Vleugel player Ousmane Dembele is jointly on that list of 26 goals and six assists.
Although he would not go into the departments in which he thinks PSG is superior to Liverpool, Luis Enrique said that his team will be dangerous if they can dominate the possession.
“We need the ball. Maybe we are not physically difficult, but we are one of the best teams in possession in Europe,” he added.
PSG has no problems with the injury in the competition, which will be arranged in Anfield next Tuesday.
“The first game will not determine who is coming,” said Luis Enrique. “If we were to lose at home and then qualify with Anfield, I would of course take that.”
