‘Lucky’ Lewis-Skelly avoids another red card as Arteta reaction speaks volumes

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly was considered happy to escape a second booking in the Gunners' Champions League collision with PSV Eindhoven.

Lewis-Skelly was already on a yellow card when he dropped PSV's Richard Ledezma deep in half of the Gunners. Referee Jesus Gil Manzano has awarded a free kick for the challenge, but chose not to give the teenager his marching orders.

The Arsenal -Yongere was sent against wolves earlier in the season, only for his ban to be destroyed later. However, he was not so happy in the defeat against West Ham and picked up a straight red for denial of a chance of goal when he brought Hammers to Mohammed Kudus down.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta decided not to take opportunities, which replaces Lewis-Skelly for Riccardo Calafiori before the break. It was a decision that was supported by fans, who considered the young person to be happy to still be on the field.

“Arteta must now remove Lewis-Skelly !!” A fan wrote on social media. “We have Calafiori, [Jakub] Kiwior, [Ben] White and [Oleksandr] Zinchenko on the couch, so it must happen before it is sent away. If he goes on and he gets the red, Arteta gets so much stick and he would earn it. “

“It feels sorry for Lewis-Skelly, who becomes addicted so early, but making that tackle during a yellow was a Broadside,” wrote another fan. “Myles Lewis-Skelly has to relax,” wrote a third and accused him of bad discipline.

“Lewis-Skelly is a very happy boy for still playing,” was the verdict of a fourth. “That is definitely a second yellow card. Thank goodness, the referee used his head.”

Based on Prime Video Sport, commentator Alan Shearer was not surprised by the early change. “It would always be a matter of time for that change, Riccardo Calafiori for Myes Lewis-Skelly took place,” he said. “They have brought themselves into a good position, three goals up, so why the risk of going to ten men. Wise decision.

Arsenal was already three goals for good when Lewis-Skelly was replaced. Jurrien Timber opened the score before Lewis-Skelly was laid in a second for Ethan Nwaneri, and Mikel Merino made it three.

However, they could not fully hold that benefit to the break. Noa Lang withdrew one from the penalty spot, with Thomas Pardeny who entered the book after he had admitted the stairs.
