Newcastle confirm devastating Hall injury blow

Newcastle has announced that rising star Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury.

Mail Sport exclusively revealed on Tuesday that Hall, 20, would miss the Carabao Cup final on 16 March after having been on Sunday by Brighton's defeat by Brighton.

He has now seen a specialist to determine the extent of the injury, and it has been decided that surgery is required.

Newcastle confirmed the devastating news in a statement on Wednesday morning with the text: 'Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season after saving an injury to a bone in his foot.

'After a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo an operation for a period of rehabilitation with the club's medical team.

“I wish you the best for your operation and recovery, Lewis.”

The injury of Hall is another major setback for Newcastle prior to their journey to Wembley, with Anthony Gordon also the showpiece event by suspension.

Gordon was shown a straight red card for pushing Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke in the back of the head on Sunday, and Newcastle has chosen not to appeal against his resignation.

This means that Eddie Howe will be without his first-choice left-hand combination for the Cup final, with Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes who would now be expected to intervene for Hall and Gordon.

They will have the task of trying to control Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold as Newcastle to win their first domestic trophy since 1955.

Hall enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Newcastle after he was used sparingly last season, with the left side of Howe's most important players.

He made 34 performances in all competitions and gave five assists.

Hall also earned his first two senior English caps in November, and was on course to be mentioned in the first three Lions team of Thomas Tuchel next week.

However, he will now miss, with Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly apparently in pole position to get his chance to get the left back for the World Cup qualifications against Albania and Latvia.
