Barcelona is expected to sign several defenders this summer, and their chances of signing one of them seem to have had a big boost in recent weeks. This is the case with Jonathan Tah, who looks like the latest free agent made by the La Liga leaders.
Tah has been on the radar of Barcelona for the past 12 months. They consider him an excellent cheap signing for the Hansi Flick team, which would be especially necessary in the case of Andreas Christensen and/or Eric Garcia who leaves at the end of the season, which is possible, since both players have no contract in 2026.
The preference of Tah is reportedly Barcelona, and this is likely that a factor Bayern Munich falls out of the race to sign the Bayer Leverkusen -defender, who was reported by Süddeutsche Zeitung (via Sport).
Both Bayern's Sporting Department and Tah it has been decided that the 28-year-old will not move to Bavaria when his Leverkusen contract ends at the end of the season. In theory, this Barcelona should give a relatively clear run to protect a pre-contract agreement, although the complications have risen in their end in recent days.
Flick is in favor of adding his fellow German to the first team team in Barcelona, although that will only happen if a position opens in the case of a departure. In this case it is far from certain that Christensen or Eric will leave, despite the fact that both players would only have a year about their current deals by the time that summer walks around.
A decision by Barcelona on Tah is not expected quickly, whereby it is more likely towards the end of the season. At this stage they can eventually miss if other clubs enter the race or Leverkusen succeed in securing his stay.
