Football fans announced their feelings as Liverpool, benefited from two tight VAR calls in the first half of their Champions League match to Paris Saint-Germain.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia thought he had given the French side around 20 minutes when he gathered the ball and curled in the far corner of the net of Alisson. However, the celebrations of the home team were quickly demolished, with the Georgian offside straying by the best margins.
The hosts also thought that Ibrahima Konate should have been sent away for a last man wrong on Bradley Barcola. However, referee Davide Massa on the field did not give any mistake in real time, and VAR chose the Italian.
PSG also missed a number of opportunities to take the lead during a scoreless first half, with Barcola and Joao Neves under that fire of the target if they are placed well. On social media, however, those two marginal calls gave the most important points of talks.
“Two huge VAR calls, both incredibly close, both went from Liverpool,” wrote one. “I don't know what Rabbit Foot Arne Slot rubbed, but their happiness is outrageous this season.”
“It seems that refs have a shock throughout Europe, then not only against your EPL team,” wrote another. “Clear error by Konate. Should not need VAR for that, sorry.”
“Only one team can get away with this. The team that just did,” a third claimed. Another gave an even simpler answer and said, “PSG robbed”
“That's a mistake. The push is in the back, so it's a mistake,” said Rio Ferdinand during the live coverage of TNT Sports about the game. “If that is not a red card, I will be amazed.”
Although the Konate decision was open to interpretation – even if many did not agree with the conclusions of the civil servants – it was a different story with the not -inserane goal. Kvaratskhelia was only somewhat out, but with regard to the rules, it was the same as a few meters behind the last defender.
“What a break that is,” said Co-commentator ally McCoist. “We knew it was tight. It is almost criminal not to allow that, it was such a good finish. But if it is offside, it is offside.”
