Arne Slot agrees with Harvey Elliott’s Alisson claim after Liverpool goalkeeper’s PSG heroics

Arne Slot has labeled Alisson as the best goalkeeper in the world – a representation shared by Liverpool's competition winner Harvey Elliott.

The Dutchman saw his team dominated in their Champions League last 16 draw when PSG seemed relentless in the Parc des Princes. The French side had 27 efforts on the goal, compared to only two for the visitors, but it was the Reds that appeared as victors.

Elliott scored in the 88th minute to give Liverpool control over the last 16 meeting, but only after Alisson continued to deny the most important men of PSG. The will of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele were all thwarted by the Brazilian keeper.

Slot was full of praise for his No. 1 and was very happy that he could have the world's best shot stopper in his ranks, who had never had that luxury as a manager in the past.

He said to TNT Sports: “I don't think I worked with a goalkeeper who played at this level – which is normal because he is the best in the world. I had some very good players as a manager, but never had the best goalkeeper in the world, and he showed that today. I experienced that one or two times where we had to defend a lot and most of them with a 1-0 loss, or two.

He then continued, with a smile: “But to get away with a victory today was probably a bit more than we deserved.”

A host of the Liverpool players ran directly to Alisson to embrace him after the full-time whistle. There was general recognition that the Reds were only able to win their victory thanks to their goalkeeper.

Elliott, who needed less than a minute to score the winner after he came up like a sub, said: “I have no words to be honest, this guy is incredible. The best in the world, he shows us in every game. Keep us in so many games and tonight it is my chance to pay this man back. I don't know where we are.”

Liverpool brings the victory in strong control over their draw with PSG, which is their record in Anfield, especially in Europe. The Parisians will feel that they have a chance when they go to Merseyside, so their dominance was, but the game on English soil will probably follow a different pattern.
