England -captain Harry Kane received the highest match assessment after breaking his 'Leverkusen Curse' in the victory of Bayern Munich.
Kane took his count in all competitions this season to 30 goals with a brace in a 3-0 win for the hosts, making them overwhelming favorites to continue to the quarterfinals.
A number of Bayern players were celebrated for their performance against the Bundesliga champions, with people like Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich who received all the praising reviews.
But it was the deadly instincts of the 31-year-old Kane who mainly impressed the German publication Bild.
“Leverkusen curse broken,” the report began. “What a game of the English star. He had not scored this season in one of the three games against Bayer, but in the collision of the Champions League he led the ball perfectly in the left corner in the 9th minute. In contrast to the assessment conventions used in other publications, BILD employs a threefold system, with grade 1 the highest figure.
Kane's first goal in three games against Bayer Leverkusen may not be the only curse he will break in the 2024-25 campaign. The striker could finally get some silverwork in his hands after remarkable abuse in his debut season in Bavaria.
The former Tottenham star completed a move to Germany from his youth in 2023 to win the first trophies of his career.
Bayern is clear eight points at the top of the Bundesliga and will be sure to continue to the last eight of the Champions League. The final of the competition will be organized on 31 May in their Allianz Arena.
