Dani Alves faces multi-million claim from former club due to conviction

Former Barcelona and Sevilla defender Dani Alves is currently on bail because he is waiting for the result of his profession against a rape order that was handed out in February 2024. The Brazilian could also be confronted with a financial hit in the coming months.

To post bail, Alves was forced to stomp € 1 million and transfer his passport for provisional freedom in the past year, despite the first claims that he did not have the assets to do this. Now his last football team, Pumas in Mexico, is looking for a financial fine from Alves.

The 41-year-old signed for Pumas in the summer of 2023 after six months back in Barcelona with a two-year contract. Five months after he officially signed for the club, Alves was involved in the incident that resulted in his rape order. Directors of Pumas have denied that they are taking legal action against Alves, but a court for arbitration for sport (CAS) has confirmed that they indeed take action against the former paris Saint-Germain-Man.

According to the sport, Cas has received a Pumas case against Alves for non-compliance with the code of conduct in his contract, including the club discrediting. The rumors about legal steps that were refused by Pumas say they could sue Alves for no less than € 6 million.

After the news about the incident was broken, Pumas withdrew Alves' contract that he could not have fulfilled. The appeal process is expected to take place in the coming weeks and months, with Alves having been out of prison for almost a year now. He was initially locked up for a total of 13 months after his first arrest. Alves claims that he is innocent, but has lied to the police to make a statement after he found that the victim had filed a complaint with the police.
