Conceicao urges Milan players to take responsibility in Lecce clash

Sergio Concukicao acknowledged that he had made mistakes when AC Milan prepared to visit Lecce on Saturday in Serie A, but said his team should do more to stop their malaise.

Concuyo watched while his side of Milan fell into a late defeat of Lazio in their last competition collision, their third consecutive defeat in the Italian top flight.

Indeed, only Monza (-22) has a worse point difference than AC Milan after the first 27 games played in the Serie A compared to the latest edition of the competition.

The Rossoneri won only 41 points this season in the Serie A, after gathering 56 in the first 27 games played in 2023-24, with a negative difference of -15.

This season, Conuicao has an average of 1.40 points per match as Milan manager in the Serie A. The previous coach who had on average less than 1.50 per match with the Rossoneri in the Serie A was the current Lecce coach Marco Giampaolo (1.29 in 2019-20-20).

Milan is ninth in the rankings, 11 points on drift of the top four and six points behind a European place, with Concukicao under increasing pressure.

“I made mistakes, like all coaches do,” he told reporters on Friday.

“Regarding principles and team dynamics, I have my own characteristics, and I always try to make the best decisions.

“During my career I was more satisfied than disappointments.”

Verenicao won 11 major awards during his time at Porto and led Milan to their eighth Supercoppa Italiana title in January.

But that early promise was quickly taken, with Concukicao quoting that too many mistakes in their recent competitions have contributed to their bad form.

“With results. Two things are crucial: maximum working and doing more like a team while they also limit mistakes, non -birth errors and bad luck in competitions,” he said.

“There is no other way to work. You don't just believe to believe – you believe to reach,” he said.

He added that a change demanded the buy-in from all players and said: “It was important to work with all players because there had never been time so far. If you play for Milan and do not have the wish, that is already a problem.

“Here we don't even have to talk about the desire that is accompanied by wearing this shirt.

“Only because things are not going well does not mean that we have to respond without intelligence.

“This season, the area has not been great from the start, but we have to concentrate on what we can check – the performance. The players have to take that responsibility.”
