Manchester United has already had conversations with Jean-Philippe Mateta according to reports, despite a former Premier League striker that warns that the French striker is not even “the answer” for Crystal Palace.
L'Equipe says that conversations have already taken place between the bosses of Old Trafford and the representatives of Mateta prior to a proposed summer movement with Palace that holds £ 40 million for a player they have under contract until 2027.
The Centrum-Forward has scored eight goals in its last eight Premier League matches, but was left with a pathogenic head injury after he was kicked by Millwall's Liam Roberts in last weekend's FA Cup meeting
He is expected to recover quickly after receiving two dozen stabbing, while Roberts had also doubled his ban to six games for his dangerous game.
But pronounced Troy Deeney thinks he is not suitable for United despite his form, because he may not have the talent that is needed to make the leap to one of the largest clubs in the world – regardless of their current struggles.
“No, because he's not the answer for Palace,” Deeney said on Talksport. “So why does he become the answer for Manchester United?
“I think Jean is a very good player by the way. But he is a very good player at Crystal Palace. I was a very good player in Watford. Going to the level of these big clubs is completely different.
“The only thing that plays to his advantage is that they are currently playing a kind of similar formation with Palace, where he is the leading role throughout the middle.
“But I would claim that the NO10s of Palace are better than what Manchester United currently has. So I think he is going through a good form of shape because Palace is at a good time. Nobody said they should have signed him in the preseason.”
Palace is in 12th place in the table and keep relegation wrestlers Ipswich on Saturday afternoon, while United Arsenal welcomes at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
