Man Utd could face second midfield blow after Mainoo contract bombshell

Manchester United could miss the re -signing of midfielder Angel Gomes, in the midst of great uncertainty about the future of Kobbie Mainoo.

Gomes came through the Academy of United, but left the club for Lille in 2020 in an offer for more playing time and the 24-year-old made an impression during his time in Ligue 1. Gomes made his debut in England under Interim boss under Interim boss and is heavily connected to the Premier League.

United is one of the clubs that are reportedly interested in its services, with Gomes available on a free transfer next summer when his contract with Lille ends. According to new reports from French points of sale Foot Sur 7 and Pierrot Le Foot, according to Sport Witness, Lille's attempts to convince him to sign an extension have proven not to be successful so far.

It is claimed that West Ham leads the race to sign Gomes and Lille has 'a great difficulty' to convince him to stay in France. Van United, Tottenham and Aston Villa would also keep an eye on the situation.

The news comes after The Guardian reported that Mainoo will reject the offer of United of a new contract and push them to a move abroad. The Red Devils have been locked up for some time in conversations with the midfielder about a new deal and it is claimed that no agreement has been reached.

Mainoo has left for his current deal for two years, which is worth around £ 20,000 a week and United can sell it next summer. Chelsea is linked to Mainoo, but it is said that the 19-year-old does not want to become a member of another Premier League club and instead is in favor of a relocation of England.

United is open to cashing in Mainoo to help their financial situation and to appreciate the midfielder at around £ 70 million. When he was asked about the future of Mainoo in January, Red Devils Baas Ruben Amorim challenged him to keep improving.

“I think Kobbie Mainoo improves a lot during the last games,” Amorim told reporters. “But I think you feel that he is the end product – and he is not. He has so much potential to grow up even more.

“He is really good, but he can be so much better. I think he improves, improve all players, all players are important to me, regardless of whether they have worked with me in the past.”
