Illness threatens key defender availability for Real clash against Vallecano

After the disappointing defeat of last weekend against Real Betis, Real Madrid wants to return to aiming ways in La Liga against Rayo Vallecano, who make the short trip to the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon.

Several big guns can, however, be equipped for the competition with a view to the Champions League round on Wednesday from 16 second stage against Atletico Madrid in the Metropolitano.

A player who is contrary to being equipped is Antonio Rudiger, who was not 100% for the first leg victory in Atleti on Tuesday after picking up a knock in the game against Betis. He also recently returned from weeks with a hamstring injury, while club officials are also worried about the state of his knee, which he was seriously injured on several occasions in the past.

To finish it, Rudiger did not come with the flu, according to Marca. He is now mentioned as doubtful for Sunday's game against Rayo, after he trained his Real Madrid teammates during Saturday's session.

Real Madrid is expected to be as careful as possible for the Rayo competition, since the trip to Atleti is only four days away. Rudiger will be a clear starter for that, so the chance is that he will miss on Sunday.

If that turns out to be a case, Carlo Ancelotti will almost certainly go with a center-back pair of Raul Asencio and Aurelien Tchouamameni. There may also be opportunities that Jacobo Ramon starts, although it would be risky that he and Asencio are linked together in view of their combined lack of experience.

Just like in the middle of the defense, a change on right back is probably. Federico Valverde is another player who is struggling in recent weeks, and it is expected that he will be replaced by Lucas Vazquez.
