Nico Williams has revealed why he decided to stay in Athletic Bilbao last summer instead of completing a transfer away from the club.
The Spaniard was one of Europe's striking players because his country of Euro 2024 was successful and interested in Barcelona's will. Williams would also have been a player Mikel Arteta 'Loves', although the finances involved in a deal earlier this year turned out to be priceless for Arsenal.
The 22-year-old would have rejected a move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer when he decided between moving to Barcelona or remained in the Basque region. In the end, Williams decided to stay at his hometown club, despite the wish of Barca Sporting Director Deco to sign him.
It is said of Arsenal that the only hope will keep that Williams could still relax his transfer position. The Gunners are reportedly prepared to activate the release clause of the star in the summer and will not require a sale to do this.
However, their task does not sound easy. The wing player, who has registered this period six goals and seven assists, does not believe that he will find the same connection that he experiences in the Estadio de San Mamés, somewhere else.
“This relationship that we have in the core of the club is incredible. Everyone respects everyone, which is incredible, “he told France Football.
“This atmosphere, I will not have it anywhere else. I therefore decided to stay. I made the decision that I thought was the right one. I am happy and I try to do my best.”
Williams was further experienced from his football inspirations. Asked for whom he modeled his game, the Young Star gave a surprise answer in exchange when he mentioned three players.
Cristiano Ronaldo is probably at the top of the lists of many players, but Williams also closely monitored a legend of Crystal Palace. Wilfried Zaha, currently on loan at Charlotte FC, was a player that Williams could only watch.
“Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo. I loved that kind of attacker, “he said.” And Wilfried Zaha, which I have not mentioned yet. I loved him when he was in Crystal Palace. He was a player I loved. I cut my hair to look like him.
“I tried to dribble like them, to the maximum copying and moving like them. To do 5 percent of what they have done … “
