Callum Hudoson-Odoi scored a late winner to secure three points for Nottingham Forest against Manchester City.
The former Chelsea wing player proved the difference to earn a four-point advantage compared to their opponents while their Champions League dreams took a step closer. It was a tight affair that could entertain some of the top teams in the competition, but often not as a result.
There were few clear opportunities, but Ederson was forced to keep the city in the game with a fantastic salvation after he saw Hudson-Odoi's shot after 67 minutes. The forest star returned more than 15 minutes later to beat the Brazilian at the Near Post when he should have done better.
A jubilant city soil caused a fantastic soundtrack for the end of the game while they keep dreaming. Mirror Football takes a look at the talk points to originate from the game.
Vecht top four
It is a rare moment when Nottingham Forest is above Manchester City when they meet. A huge 59 points separated the sides at the end of last season, but the side of Nuno Espirito Santo came the game better in a single point.
It is difficult to assess who has had the more surprising season, but both teams now want to secure a place in the Champions League. Third and fourth is anything but a victory, the risk that Chelsea will have the chance to get ahead in the table.
“Liverpool was not in the Champions League One, Two or Three Seasons ago, and look now,” said Pep Guardiola prior to the game. However, every attempt to play the importance is not convincing.
“It's important [the game]. “He added.” We want to be in the Champions League next season. We are going to try it until the last second, that's for sure. “
After they had been wiped out 3-0 earlier this season, Forest showed that they would not offer City an easy task for qualification. It is a fight to go to the thread, and the matte entertainment is often seen is perhaps indicated what drove at stake.
Guardiola will be left behind to think about his before the match fell into a late defeat and the possibility to quickly fall out of the top four.
Wood vs Haaland
When Chris Wood gave the ball to the city early to get Haaland, it felt as if the Norway International was about to take advantage of the battle between the previous, real Center-Forwards of the Premier League. Haaland's wasteing effort was more typical of what both offered during the first half.
The couple came in the game this season with 38 league goals between them, but neither of them could determine their dominance at stake in the midst of good defensive versions. Instead, it was Hudoson-Odoi who claimed the headlines with his fifth Premier League goal of the season.
Khusanov revival
For many it will be difficult to forget the difficult debut of Abdukodir Khusanov. For city fans, it will probably be frustrating in view of the transformation he has already shown.
Khusanov has already earned the player of the month prize from the club and again looked a strong presence with a stylish presence to make approval in a pass. The 21-year-old was tested for the physical presence of Chris Wood, especially the more adventurous became more adventurous in the second period and the task came up well.
The defender of giving birth of a fantastic block against a powerful Morgan Gibbs-White recording in the second period. Unfortunately for him it is Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic who can enjoy their complasits today.
Nottingham Forest Approach
It was a story of two halves for Bos, and it is difficult to claim that it was not an impactful. The opening period saw a reserved approach approaching where the Midlands side was happy to have bodies behind the ball and to refuse the city all the clear opportunities.
Midfielder Nicolas Dominguez won more duels than fits completed with the home team that is apparently happy to frustrate their opposition. After the break, however, a new renewed intensity was present in the team.
Forest buzzed and pressed when they offer to take advantage of the gaps that opened to 90 minutes and took over the control over the game for part of the second 45. For how well they looked ahead, some could suggest, it was a pity that they did not start before.
But it was a plan that worked to perfection, because Hudoson-Odoi showed the clinical finish to clean such a performance.
PEP's replacements
Matheus Nunes was replaced by Rico Lewis and Nico Gonzalez by Mateo Kovacic after 62 minutes when Guardiola made his first changes. The city boss
There were perhaps other candidates who may be expected to be replaced first, because Bernado Silva and Phil Foden struggled to make an impact near Haaland. It was not too much longer before it was replaced, to his annoyance.
Omar Marmoush and Kevin De Bruyne came into battle after 69 minutes, more typical attacking options than Guardiola for the first time. They helped City to reverse the tide, but turned out not to be enough.
Apart from his hat trick against Newcastle, Marmoush did not succeed in finding it just before the city, but with his record before he came to the club, it is not far-fetched to think that his end product is needed for more than cameo performances.
