Mason Greenwood fell by Roberto de Zerbi after the Marseille manager admitted that he was not impressed by the Englishman.
The former prospect of Manchester United has so far had a productive season for the French giants and scored 15 goals in 24 games to come forward as one of the striking players in Ligue 1.
That said, Greenwood remains a much less influential possession when it comes to the open game of Marseille, especially when it comes to his defensive tasks.
And although he scored three goals in his last five performances, his finishing -thouperence did not save him to be exhausted from Marseille's starting line -up for tonight's collision against RC -Lens, days after the Zerbi had destroyed his faint versions.
While he repeated his joy to have Greenwood at his disposal, the former Brighton boss emphasized his dissatisfaction with the player last week.
“I wanted him here, I said it again and again,” said the Zerbi, thoughtfully about the arrival of Greenwood last summer.
“He was the first player with whom I contacted, even before I signed for. I had already spoken to his father. Nobody can respect him anymore than me.
“But that doesn't change anything: I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough.
'If he wants to reach his ambition to become a champion, he must be more consistent, sacrifice more and be determined.
'Otherwise we always fall back in the same pattern as a range: a very good match, then a defeat at Auxerre, then a victory against Nantes … It's too irregular, it's like waves. And that is something I don't like. '
After he rose as one of the smartest young talents of Man United, he left the club last summer after he was arrested in January 2022 before being accused of attempted rape, assault and controlling and compulsive behavior.
The charges against Greenwood were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service after the 'withdrawal of important witnesses and new material that comes to light'.
After being exiled by the United Squad, Greenwood revived his career in the Spanish outfit Getafe last season, where he took 10 goals and six assists.
He was also eradicated by the arrangement of England, so that he formally submits an application to change to Jamaica of Steve McClaren.
