Ruben Amorim appealed to Mikel Arteta to get the time in Arsenal – two years before he became engaged in a crisis in Manchester United.
The Portuguese head coach was appointed as the replacement of Erik ten Hag in November Trafford in Old Trafford. But so far it has been a miserable saying at the club.
He has only won 11 of his 24 games – with only five of those successes in the Premier League. It leaves the Red Devils 14th in the table prior to this weekend's collision with Arsenal.
But Amorim can look very carefully at his opposite song Arteta for how things can change dramatically. In 2023 speaking as Sporting Lisbon Boss, he praised Arteta because he finally had things in North Londs after initially overwhelming.
At that time he said: “This year we are struggling, but Arteta is an example because he was able to resist the pressure, which is unbearable for a team in the Premier League.
“Now he is bearing the fruits, it's important for fans to understand that to pick up the fruits of your work, you have to wait.”
Arteta has since established Arsenal as a BonaFide Premier League title Day, while they look in the Champions League. The United United Boss in Under-Pressure is now in a similar position that has been subject to the Red Devils so far.
And earlier this season he made an almost identical comment when United fell on a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal of Arteta. He said: “You learn constantly. It is very difficult, but you have to take the positive and the negatives, just like any other game.
“We will concentrate on everything we do, the players will get fresh again for the next game and get back on the field. We will succeed in a stadium full of our fans. We need a little time.”
Arteta and Amorim will extend the rivalry this weekend while Man United and Arsenal will come across Old Trafford. A victory would probably only wear first place the Premier League table, with European football still a way free.
But Arsenal was able to reduce the gap to Liverpool with three points. Arteta's side is 13 points behind the Reds, with another detrimental result that probably ends their title challenge once and for all.
