Ruben Amorim insisted that he does not want Manchester United to play football that saw them 1-1 with Arsenal with Arsenal on Sunday.
United spent great periods of the game with men behind the ball and, despite the squeeze through the free kick of Bruno Fernandes on the break, they were finally fed back when Declan Rice made it to play with 16 minutes.
The hosts only enjoyed 31.8% of the possession and only registered 36 final submissions of the 71 of their opponents.
Amorim has assured the club's supporters that playing defensive football is not his goal and that the style of his team will evolve on time.
“I think we did well,” said the United Boss. “Of course we don't want to play that way, defend so much and give the ball to the opponent.
“With all the games and characteristics of the players [it worked]. For example, Lindelof is without many games. Casemiro is more comfortable in this type of game.
“If you coach Manchester United, you can't play so much. You have to try to win the game. I know it is sometimes frustrating for fans. We are dealing with that and sometimes do things that are not popular.”
Supporters protested against the ownership of the Glazer family prior to the game, and Amorim was sympathetic to the club with their dissatisfaction.
He said: “This club will never die, that is clear. You feel it on the street. This is a large company and maybe all fans in this competition sometimes find it harder to go to the games and pay for tickets.
“We want to put them a lot of effort. We won't play that way in the future.”

Full-back Diogo Dalot also claimed that the club should not be satisfied until they “are at the top again” after his 200th performance for the club.
“If you sign for a big club like this, you want to live every moment,” he said. “To reach this milestone, it was a proud moment for me and my family.
“I am really happy with the journey and hopefully there will be a lot more. I am really happy that I am here because I want to fight for it, and we cannot be satisfied until we are at the top again.
“If we can control games and win 3-0, I would be happier, but at the moment we have to find that way.”
