Barcelona players miss press conference ahead of Benfica clash

No Barcelona First Team players will attend their UEFA Champions League press conference on 10 March.

La Blaugrana welcomed Benfica to Catalonia for a last 16 second stage on 11 March with Hansi Flick's hosts with a 1-0 first leg lead.

However, the last 48 hours have seen a big change in the Barcelona camp, after postponing their weekend La Liga Home collision with Osasuna.

The decision was made by La Blaugrana less than 30 minutes before the kick -off after the tragic update that Club Doctor Carles Minarro Garcia had died.

The shock felt throughout the Barcelona team confirmed by club president Joan Laporta who tributed to a 'loved member of the Barcelona family'.

That has influenced Barcelona's preparations for the Benfica game with a training structured to give players extra time to absorb the news.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, UEFA has accepted a request from Barcelona with regard to their duties for the competition.

After a final training session behind closed doors, only Flick will speak with the media before the game.

No player is expected to miss the game – contrary to the fact that it is already put aside – but black bracelets will be worn and observed a silence before the start at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Company.

Van Flick is expected to reflect Laporta's message as part of his match -related updates prior to the Bruno Lage team.

With the bracket that is now set for the quarterfinals, Barcelona knows that they will be confronted with Borussia Dortmund or Lille in the next phase in the next phase, if they are progressing the last eight past Benfica.

That second stage takes place the next day, with the same level after a 1-1 draw in Dortmund last week-far-reaching, Barcelona is most likely to Bayern Munich or Inter Milan in a possible semi-final at the end of April.
