Motta rejects calls to apologise to Juventus fans after worst defeat in 57 years

The routes were the worst house loss in more than 57 years as Mateo Retegui (penalty), Marten de Roon, Davide Zappacosta and breathola lookman all beaten for the visitors.

Asked to apologize for the Juve support, Motta was full: “I think we started a game that we knew would be complicated, against a team that wanted to get the most out of our mistakes.

“After the fine, without responding to the details of how debatable it was, that was a painful moment. We are a young team, we have tried to pour forward and go back into the game, but that left holes behind.

“We struggled psychologically with that first goal and became unbalanced, giving Atalanta even more room to come across with players like Lookman and their wing backs. After such a defeat we are sad, we are disappointed, but at the same time this will talk about the scudetto that you are dragging to us will no longer be discussed.

“Now we have to regroup ourselves against another good side in Fiorentina and continue.”

He added: “It is a defeat that we don't like, but I don't put it on the same level as the defeat against Empoli (in the Coppa Italia). They are different situations. Our team started well and after the penalty incident the game changed.

“We had to keep our balance and did not, but it is partly due to a lack of experience in the side.”

Despite the heavy defeat, Juve remains in fourth place at the Serie A table.
