Slot makes bold ‘best game’ claim after Liverpool crash out of UCL to PSG

Arne Slot said that Liverpool's Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain was the best football match he has ever been involved in, despite the Reds crashing from the competition.

Liverpool lost on punishments after the goal of Ousmane had released the goal of Dembele, with substitutes Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones who both saw their stairs saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, all four of their stairs scored with PSG.

Slot, whose side 15 points are clear at the top of the Premier League and play against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday: “I think it was the best football match I was ever involved in. Incredible performance, especially if you were to come with last week, the first 20-25 minutes, we were everywhere.

Reds captain Virgil van Diegk said: “It was a very intensely great football game, I am also thinking of being part of it. It was completely for Liverpool and what we showed in Paris and unfortunately were on punishment and that is the reality.

“I think we have created dangerous moments in the first half and they also have the quality, and then it comes down to punishment.

“It is part of football, I told the boys, you can of course be disappointed because we are out of the competition, but getting up and preparing for the next challenge, a nice at the weekend.

“I think we were pretty good today, and you want to go as far as possible, but we knew that if we pulled PSG, it would be very difficult. We saw in Paris when we struggled, but we won, and today we saw a very good Liverpool side, but we are out of the competition.

“Today from the first second and then extra time, when fatigue enters into force for both parties, it becomes more open, but especially regular time, we have shown a very good game. We have been able to talk about the game for centuries, but we are out of the competition, that is reality.”
