VAR saved the blushing of the officials after a controversial incident in the Champions League match of Barcelona with Benfica on Tuesday evening.
After winning the first stage of 1-0 in Lisbon last week, Barcelona was well on its way to the quarterfinals after a 2-1 lead in the final phase of the first half.
In the 42nd minute Alejandro Balde stormed back before he played the ball to Raphinha.
The Brazilian attacker found the corner of the net, while Baltde was eliminated at the same time by Benfica defender Nicolas Otamendi.
Raphinha drove away to celebrate, only for the flag of the assistant referee to go offside.
After a short break, the referee has canceled the goal and awarded Barcelona a free kick on the edge of the box before he booked Otamendi for his late challenge.
The Barcelona players seemed perplexed, while the TNT Sports commentary team of Sam Matterface and Glenn Hoddle also seemed confused by what was going on.
Just when the referee was about to lift the wall, he then blew his whistle after receiving Word from Var that Raphinha was actually on the side.
The home crowd broke out while Raphinha was celebrated for the second time after a delay of more than a minute.
In the meantime, the yellow card of Otamendi was withdrawn when the referee moved to correct his blunder.
Barcelona's third of the evening brought them 4-1 on aggregated after a dominant first half display.
Raphinha gave them the lead in the night in the 11th minute, only for Otamendi to give Benfica a header two minutes later.
